Mississippi records

v.a fight on your time ain't long
Beautiful between-the-wars recordings from the American underground -- a mix of blues and gospel sides with a tremendously haunting feel! The set's something of a counterpart to the excellent Life Is A Problem record on Mississippi -- and like that one, it's pulled from a range of rare singles that mostly feature spare guitar and vocals -- surprisingly powerful stuff, given the recording techniques -- and often delivered with a freshness that goes way beyond familiar conceptions you might have about the music. Titles include "Great Reaping Day" by Bessie Johnson, "Promised True & Grand" by Bukka White, "Where The Sun Never Goes Down" by Willie Williams, "Wouldn't Mind Dying" by Blind Mamie Forehand, "Won't That Be A Happy Time" by Louise & Joseph, "Take A Stand" by McIntorsh & Edwards, and "Fight On Your Time Ain't Long" by Bo Weavil Jackson.
Bukka White - Promised True And Grand / Kid Prince Moore - Sign Of The Judgement / Bessie Johnson - Great Reaping Day / Blind Joe Taggart - The Storm Is Passing Over / Blind Mamie Forehand - Wouldn't Mind Dying / Willie Williams - Where The Sun Never Goes Down / Bo Weavil Jackson - Fight On, Your Time Ain't Long / Mother McCollum - Take My Vacation In Heaven / Edward Clayborn - Your Enemy Cannot Harm You / McIntosh And Edwards - Take A Stand / Alfred G. Karnes - Bound For The Promised Land / Louise And Joseph - Won't That Be A Happy Time

Re: Mississippi records
Encore quelques prods de ca fameux label :
Bongo joe-Georges Coleman :
The legendary street musician George Coleman passed away aged 76 in 1999, having spent the last part of his life and career there, playing his empty oil drums on the streets. From the beginnings of 'I Wish I Could Sing' you can make out parallels between this kind of snarled, stomped racket and Tom Waits' weirder material, but while Waits plays a character, you get the distinct impression that this is who Coleman is all the time, ranting and belting away at his oil drum as if it was a makeshift metallophone. It's all every bit as bizarre as it sounds, although apparently Coleman thought of himself as a rapper of sorts, rambling and fumbling his way through stories whilst beating out a kind of backstreets Afrobeat.
v.a oh graveyard you can't always hold me
Compilation of hard to find gospel recorded in the 1960’s & early 1970’s. More mediative & well produced material than the Life is a problem LP. Nice old school tip-on sleeves. Great stuff.
Side A
1.Mosby Family Singers - Eternal life
2.Straight Street Group - Come home
3.Laura Rivers - That’s alright
4.Rev. Lonnie Farris - Peace in the valley
5.Radio Four - Walk around
6.Joe Townsend - Going over the hill
7.White Family - Help me Jesus
Side B
1.Silver Quintette - Sinners crossroads
2.James carter & The Mighty stars - You don’t know
3.Farris & Williams - In your kingdom
4.Brother Willie Eason - Grumblers
5.Traveling Echoes - Looking for a better place to live
6.Sensational Happy Traveleres - God bless the believers (march theme)
7.Unknown - We shall overcome.
